Claude vs ChatGPT for business: how a Singapore SME should choose
Updated 20 October 2026
Claude and ChatGPT are both general AI assistants for everyday writing, document and spreadsheet work, and both have business plans where your data isn't used to train their models by default. For most small teams, the right choice depends less on which one is "smarter" and more on which plan fits, how your data is handled, and the apps your team already uses. Here's how to compare them.
The short answer
- Both can do the everyday work. Drafting replies, summarising documents and working with spreadsheets are things both assistants handle.
- The plan matters more than the brand. If staff will paste in company or customer information, look at the business plans and their data settings first.
- Test both on your own work before you pay. Your real tasks are the only test that counts.
Plans side by side
| Claude (Anthropic) | ChatGPT (OpenAI) | |
|---|---|---|
| Plans for one person | Free, Pro, Max | Free, Go, Plus, Pro |
| Plans for a team | Team (for 2 to 150 people), Enterprise | Business (from 2 users), Enterprise |
| Free plan | Yes | Yes |
| Where to check prices | claude.com/pricing | chatgpt.com/pricing |
We've left prices out on purpose. Both companies show prices in US dollars, and prices change. Anthropic's pricing page says its prices don't include tax and that prices and plans are subject to change. Check the official pages on the day you buy.
Every Claude plan has usage limits, paid plans included, and ChatGPT's plans also differ in how much of each feature you get. If your team keeps hitting a limit, that's a reason to look at a bigger plan, not necessarily a reason to switch assistants.
Business data and training: the row that matters most
This is where the plan you pick makes the biggest difference.
Team and business plans
Claude Team and Enterprise: Anthropic's pricing page lists model training on these plans as "None by default". Its privacy centre says that for its commercial products it doesn't use your inputs or outputs to train its models, unless you give feedback (such as a thumbs up or down) or opt in. Team and Enterprise owners can turn off the feedback button. On these plans your business is the data controller and Anthropic acts as processor.
ChatGPT Business and Enterprise: OpenAI says it doesn't train its models on business data from these plans by default, unless you've chosen to share it, for example through its feedback options.
Personal plans
Claude Free, Pro and Max and ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus and Pro both let each user choose whether their chats help train the models. In Claude it's the "Help improve our AI models" privacy setting. In ChatGPT it's "Improve the model for everyone" under Settings, then Data controls. Turning either off stops new chats being used for training. Anthropic notes that chats flagged by its safety systems may still be used for safety work. OpenAI notes that if you give feedback on a response, that whole conversation may be used for training.
What this means for a small business
If staff use personal accounts for work, each person controls the setting, not you. A team plan puts that control with the business. On any plan, decide what staff may and may not paste in.
Singapore's PDPC published Advisory Guidelines on Use of Personal Data in Generative AI on 20 July 2026. A business that lets its staff use an AI assistant falls under what the guidelines call a "System Deployer". The guidelines say deployers should tell their users which types of personal data may be entered, and encourage clear written policies. This is general information, not legal advice.
Everyday features to compare
Each point below comes from that company's own pages. We haven't said which assistant does each job better, because that changes with updates and depends on your work.
- Saved workspaces. Claude Projects each keep their own chat history and knowledge base, so you can upload your documents and context once. Free users can create up to five. ChatGPT's pricing page also lists Projects on its personal plans.
- Files. Claude can create Excel, PowerPoint, Word and PDF files in a chat, on every plan. Team and Enterprise owners can switch this off. ChatGPT's pricing page lists file uploads on every plan (limited on Free), data analysis, and extensions for Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Google Sheets.
- Repeat tasks. Claude Skills are folders of instructions and resources Claude loads for specific, repeatable jobs, such as documents in your brand style or your company's email templates. They're on all plans and need code execution turned on. ChatGPT's pricing page also lists Skills on its personal plans.
- Email, calendar and files. Claude's Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Drive connectors are available to all users. Claude can search and read emails, draft them, and send, reply or forward, but by default it asks for your approval before each of those actions. On Team and Enterprise, an owner has to turn connectors on first. On ChatGPT Business and Enterprise, workspace admins control which apps are connected.
How to test both in one afternoon
- Pick three real tasks from this week: a customer reply, a quotation, and a question about a spreadsheet. Take out names and personal details first, or use a made-up version.
- Give both assistants the same instructions and the same files. Use the free plans if you haven't paid for either yet.
- Score each answer. Was it accurate? Did it sound like your business? How much did you have to fix?
- Ask one follow-up in each, such as "make it shorter" or "add the delivery date". Real work is rarely one message.
- Let the person who'll use it most have the final say.
A simple scorecard to print or copy:
| Task | Claude: accurate? right tone? fixes needed | ChatGPT: accurate? right tone? fixes needed |
|---|---|---|
| Customer reply | ||
| Quotation | ||
| Spreadsheet question |
Why we teach Claude only
We teach Claude, the AI assistant made by Anthropic, and nothing else. Focusing on one assistant means your team learns it properly, from everyday replies through to Projects, Skills and connectors. That's our choice for how we teach, not a verdict on ChatGPT. If your team already uses ChatGPT and it works for you, that's a fine outcome too.
If you choose Claude
We help you pick the Claude plan that fits your work and budget, including the free plan. Start with a free 15-minute call on Google Meet. If you'd like hands-on help straight away, the 1-hour 1-to-1 Claude call is S$150, and it includes setting up a free or paid Claude account and the settings worth changing.
For staff, the Introductory course is S$250 per person: 3 hours live on Google Meet, up to 8 people, and it covers using Claude safely. For a whole team, the half-day team session is S$1,200 for up to 15 people, an intro rate for the first 5 companies. Everything is live on Google Meet; we don't run in-person sessions. Our training is not SkillsFuture-claimable. More answers are on our FAQ page.
Common questions
Is Claude better than ChatGPT?
It depends on the task and on how your team works. Both handle everyday writing, document and spreadsheet work. The fair test is to run the same three real tasks in both and compare how much fixing each answer needs.
Does Claude or ChatGPT use my business data for training?
On Claude Team and Enterprise, and on ChatGPT Business and Enterprise, your data isn't used to train their models by default, unless you opt in, for example by giving feedback. On personal plans, each user can turn training use off in their own settings.
Can I use the free version for work?
You can, but check two things first. Turn off the training setting in each account, and agree with staff what they may and may not paste in. A team plan puts these settings with the business instead of with each person.
What's the difference between Claude Pro and Claude Team?
Pro is a plan for one person. Team is for 2 to 150 people, with central billing and admin, project sharing, and no model training on your data by default.
Can Claude read my Gmail or Google Drive?
Yes, if you connect them. Claude's Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Drive connectors are available to all users. By default, Claude asks for your approval before it sends, replies to or forwards an email. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner has to turn the connectors on first.
Do you teach ChatGPT too?
No. We teach Claude only, so your team learns one assistant properly.
